There are varieties of input that combinely make a strong built house or any construction structure. These inputs or building materials are first checked by the architects for their load bearing capacity or strength, before installation.

The building materials used in construction could be both natural and human-made. The natural materials used for construction are generally wood & sand, and the man-made materials could be concrete and steel bars.

Cement, reinforced bars, sand, bricks, aggregates, clay are the most common materials that are almost used in all types of construction projects, whether big or small.

Here, we list you all the important materials that your contractor might use during the construction of your house.

1. Cement

It is the primary material used in the concrete formation, the main purpose of it is to bind the materials together and to provide strength. Cement concrete is a major component in building construction, widely used for its amazing structural properties.

Cement concrete is prepared using cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, and water. There are generally six main types of cement with specific defining behaviors and chemical compositions that are used in construction.

Generally ordinary portland cement is used for this purpose. Depending on the construction circumstances, rapid hardening cement, high alumina cement, etc could be used to prepare the concrete.

2. Sand

It is a naturally occurring building material that is loose, fragmented, consisting of particulate matter such as rocks, corals, shells, and other stones.

Sand is used for making concrete, mortars, and plasters and also as a filling material for floor basements. It is the most commonly used input in building construction responsible for providing bulk, strength, and stability to other materials involved in a concrete formation.

3. TMT Bar

Responsible for providing the structural strength to the buildings and other construction projects, TMT bars are made up of steel. They are found in different grades and sizes and are primarily used in pillars and slabs, responsible for providing a firm foundation to the structures, along with flexibility.

The grades and sizes are chosen depending on the seismic zone in which the building is to be constructed. In a high seismic zone area which is generally prone to frequent earthquakes, the construction projects must intake the use of a higher grade TMT bar, and a building in a low seismic zone area must use a lower grade rebar. The use of right TMT bars help keep the structures safe.

4. Bricks

Bricks are widely used as structural as well as a non-structural(aesthetical) element in construction. As a structural element bricks are used in the construction of walls, retaining the deformed walls of buildings, arches, and claddings. As a non-structural material they can be used as fillers or to add to the aesthetic interiors of houses & buildings.

During the construction, good quality bricks should be used to support the strength of the structures. A good quality brick is free from any cracks, and must not absorb half of its own weight when immersed in water for 24hrs. They should be non-inflammable and incombustible.

5. Coarse Aggregate

Coarse aggregates are stones broken down into much smaller pieces of irregularly shaped stones. There are many materials required in the preparation of concrete mix, but it is mostly made up of coarse aggregate, they are one of the essential materials of concrete, and occupy most of the concrete mixture.

Coarse aggregate are generally used in construction for the amount of strength they provide to the concrete. It has a major effect on the concrete properties, such as it makes the concrete hard, durable, elastic, strong, and cheaper.

It is impossible to compromise or neglect the quality of the building materials because it defines the strength and longevity of the structure. To maintain the quality of your home, always be sure to select the highest-quality input materials.
